two experienced attorneys in our law office, being Steve McCollum and Dan Hodgkinson. Both are former prosecutors with
the Lake County State's Attorney's office. Both attorneys work together to defend persons charged with felony, misdemeanor,
DUI (Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs), juvenile delinquency, Order of Protection and Domestic Battery cases,
traffic and DCFS cases.
Steve McCollum is a lawyer with over
35 years experience defending and prosecuting criminal cases in Waukegan, Illinois. Steve has extensive experience, having
been both a supervising prosecutor in the Lake County State's Attorney's Office and a defense attorney. Steve was the
principal defense attorney in the law firm of Staben, Kopsick & McCollum and now with McCollum Hodgkinson, PC in Waukegan,
Illinois, the county seat of Lake County, Illinois.
Daniel Hodgkinson was also previously an Assistant
State's Attorney in the Lake County State's Attorney's office. While at that office Dan tried 18 jury trials in
a span of less than four years along with many bench trials and motion hearings. His experience includes jury trials
of DUI cases, Domestic Battery cases, Juvenile Delinquency hearings and trials, and many felony jury trials. Having been
a Lake County prosecutor, Dan knows the Lake County court system and understands what it takes to attack the State's
case and win motion hearings or trials. He also has the personal relationships that can assist you in negotiating
the best possible outcome for your case.
If you need an
attorney to defend against a Criminal Felony or Misdemeanor, Juvenile Delinquency or Neglect, Driving Under the Influence
(DUI), or Traffic charge, it can be difficult to choose between the many attorneys that claim to have the competence and expertise
necessary to successfully defend the case. It is vital that you look at the background and experience of any lawyer you are
considering hiring. There is no worse feeling than the realization in the middle of your case that your lawyer didn't have
the experience necessary to competently defend you.
focus of our office is on the criminal defense of Felony, Misdemeanor, Juvenile, Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and related

What is most important to you is that this experience translates into results. Steve
has repeatedly convinced Judges to suppress evidence resulting in his client's criminal charges being dismissed. His past
experience working with prosecutors and police has enabled him to convince prosecutors to dismiss many cases against his clients.
His experience in using and cross-examining expert and other professional witnesses, such as police officers, doctors, psychiatrists,
and forensic evidence experts of all kinds has resulted in repeated findings of "not guilty" in trials in the Lake
County court system. Even in cases where there has been substantial evidence against his clients, Steve has been able to get
charges reduced so that the result was a disposition of the case that didn't affect his clients' lives on a long-term basis.
