Chief Deputy State’s Attorney and Assistant State’s Attorney:
Steve prosecuted and tried hundreds
of DUI and Misdemeanor cases when he first became an Assistant State’s Attorney. Later as a Felony Trial Attorney, Steve
did large numbers of jury trials for all types of felony offenses. Steve then became Chief of the Juvenile Division for the
Lake County State’s Attorney’s office and handled most of the major Child Abuse and Neglect cases while also handling
First Degree Murder cases on adult offenders. He has presented many expert witnesses, including laboratory personnel from
the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Northern Illinois Police Crime Laboratory, the Illinois State Crime Laboratory and
various medical, psychological and psychiatric experts.
Cases prosecuted included many nationally known cases including
more than twenty-five First Degree Murder trials, including double murder, parental murder, and other cases. Steve McCollum
has prosecuted multiple death penalty cases.
